Queen Spotting video time! Leave a 🐝 if you can see her 👑🐝 please no spoilers 🙏 Some spotting tips: - The queen’s abdomen will have a more pointed longer shape. - The queen's wings only extend 2/3 down her body. - She has longer larger legs and moves differently to the workers or drones. - As she moves around the comb the workers and drones usually get out of her way. - She can often be found surrounded by her group of attendant bees. “It was one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life, was pull out the first frame crawling with bees. And you just go, why didn't I do this 20 years ago? So, just do it.” Drew

Just a bit of afternoon sunshine grooming! 🐝🥰 sound on 🔈First in real time and then the same clip in slow motion. It’s amazing what we can see when we slow down. Bees have amazing built-in little brushes and hooks for cleaning. See how she is cleaning her tongue with her front legs while rubbing her wing clean between her body and hind leg. Pretty cool! 🐝😄 #beesarecool #fridayvibes #bee #beekeeping #flowhive #natureisamazing #honeybee #pollination #shotoniphone #slowmotion #wow #cool #welovebees

Do you know that bees regurgitate and pass honey to each other several times before it's ready to become honey? 🐝🍯 Making honey begins when a forager bee collects enough flower nectar to fill her honey stomach, maybe visiting 50 to 100 flowers. As soon as the nectar reaches the stomach, enzymes begin to break down the complex sugars into simple sugars. Transforming flower nectar into honey requires teamwork. When she returns to the hive, she regurgitates the nectar to a younger house bee. This nectar passing goes on until the water content is reduced to about 20%, and finally, this enzyme-rich-flower-nectar is stored into a cell of honeycomb to become honey. Bees create honey as a highly efficient food source to sustain themselves year-round. Excess honey can be harvested but always leave enough honey in the hive to sustain your colony. #beefact #bee #beesarecool #shotoniphone #beekeeping #nectar #workerbee #honeybee #beekeeper #bees

It's World Bee Day! 😄Our world is home to over 19,000 bee species, most of which don't live in colonies and 10% of these species are facing extinction! Pollination is essential to sustain life on earth as we know it. What a great day to learn more about how we can help these wonderful little creatures. 🐝💛 This year we are sponsoring the first-ever global count of pollinators! This incredible citizen science project is the start of a much-needed data collection effort to create a global pollinator map. Download the app at beescount.org and get snapping bees and pollinators today. 🐝🦋 #bees #bluebandedbee #nativebee #flowers #plantingforbees #beefriendlygarden #shotoniphone #worldbeeday #worldbeeday2020 #ilovebees #pollination #savethebees #pollinator

New type of queen spotting today.... Queen spotting in a swarm! 😄🐝👑 Leave a 🐝 if you can see her majesty 👑 Swarming is a honey bee colony's natural means of reproduction. In the process of swarming, a single colony splits into two or more distinct colonies. Once they leave the original colony they usually ball up in a nearby tree while scout bees search for suitable cavities in which to construct the swarm's home. 🐝🐝 #beesarecool #swarm #queenspotting #bee #honeybee #cool #beefsct

We’re so excited to be sponsoring the first-ever World Bee Count which you can be part of from the comfort of your home 🏡🐝 Follow the link in bio https://beescount.org/ to download the app and help count pollinators around the world. It's easy, just snap an image of a pollinator and upload it via the app to a Global Pollinator Map which goes live on World Bee Day, 20 May. Pollinators like bees are essential to life on earth as we know it, but they’re facing rapid decline. Let the world know what’s happening in your yard and be part of making a difference for pollinators with this @beescount global project. #beescount #worldbeeday #worldbeeday2020 #pollinators

Did you know that worker bees are all female? They do many different jobs in the hive throughout their short life. 🐝 Bee fact: Most worker bees live for around 6 weeks in the summer and they change their role within the hive frequently. They spend about half their time as a house bee and the other as a field bee. House bee roles include cleaning, nursing, undertaker, architect, builder, temperature-controller, guard, honey-maker and more! Then she graduates to a field bee and that is when she leaves the hive to collect nectar, pollen and water. Busy Bees! In contrast, Drones have only one role – to mate with a queen... No wonder the ladies kick them out in winter 😱 #flowhive #bee #honeybee #beekeeping #beefact #buzz #beesarecool #shotoniphone #sundayfunday #sundayvibes

Did you know this is a bee?! 🐝😄💜 It is commonly knowns as a Metallic sweat bee and is part of the Halictidae family. They are commonly called “sweat bees” as they are often attracted to perspiration. I think we should rename these beauties Metallic Jewel Bees! 💚💛 If you look closely you can see his stinger! But don’t worry they are not typically aggressive. A sting would usually only occur if a bee was pressed against the skin and it is said that a sweat bee has the least painful sting of all stinging insects. Bee fact: Most bees in the Halictidae family nest in the ground. They lay an egg upon a mass of nectar and pollen, sealing it off in a waterproof cell. Giving their babies all the food they need to grow all at once. Unlike honeybees that have to continuously feed their growing larvae. A honeybee nurse bee will visit developing larvae around 10,000 times over the 6 days it is in the larval stage. Wow! #beesarecool #bee #nativebee #pollination #nature #metallicsweatbee #jewelbee #natureisazing #shotoniphone #beescount #shotonmoment #momentmacro
